Reading Positively Impacts Mental Health
In our increasingly fast-paced world, making the time to read an engaging book can feel like a luxury we can’t afford. However, beyond just the entertainment value, reading can play an important role in promoting our well-being, and it’s something that’s worth making time for.
HQ Staff Love to Read!
Here Are Some of Our Top Picks
Melanie: I am currently reading The Overstory by Richard Powers, a passionate book that interweaves different stories of people and their relationship with trees and the natural world. My 9 year old recommends the Warriors series, and my 6 year old recommends Captain Underpants.
Megan: Fiction: Stormlight Archive book 5 of 10 is releasing this year and it's a great fun fantasy series! Non-Fiction: Man's Search for Meaning, a must read for all humans!
Jonathan: Some time ago I was reacquainted with the notion of reading for personal pleasure. I had heard of the book Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, which was later made into a major blockbuster film by Steven Spielberg. For anyone unfamiliar with the story, it is chock full of pop culture references spanning some of the 70's and all of the 80's, shrouded in a dystopian future full of high-rise trailer parks and virtual reality immersion for the masses. The thought of an underdog making it big due to his pop culture knowledge and video game prowess, well, let's just say that this concept spoke to me personally! It had been quite some time since a book had me eagerly returning to it, but Ready Player One helped to scratch that ol' reading-for-fun itch that I didn't realize needed scratching. But that was some time ago - we're talking YEARS! What book will help draw me back into the discovery of wondrous worlds and beguiling characters? That inspiration hasn't hit me as of yet, but I'll be looking and, if I'm lucky, soon I'll be READING.
