National Recovery Month

September is National Recovery Month, which celebrates and honors our nation’s recovery community. National Recovery Month began in 1989 and aims to promote evidence-based treatment and increase public awareness of addiction recovery. In 2021, 29 million adults in the United States perceived that they had ever had a substance use problem. If you would like to get involved in promoting awareness and celebrating those in recovery, SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) has put out a wonderful social media tool kit with graphics and messages to help reach a wide audience. Each week there is a theme. For September 1-7 the theme is “health”, for September 8-14 the theme is “home”, for Sept 15-24 the theme is “purpose”, and for Sept 22-28 the theme is “community”.

The theme of this year's Recovery Month is “The Art of Recovery” which aims to “highlight the transformative impact of art on mental health and substance use recovery. Through creative expression, individuals can find connection, healing, and empowerment.” On September 5, SAMHSA will be opening an online art gallery titled “Gallery of Hope: Artistic Expressions of Recovery Across the Nation

Here at HQ Psych, we are very proud of the recovery work that Chris Love, our Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor does for our clients and excited to highlight him this month.
